Internal Funding Opportunities for Faculty

2020/2021 Faculty Scholarship and Research Opportunities

The Faculty Scholarship and Research Opportunities comprise of four different funding opportunities sponsored by the Office of Research. Each opportunity is open to all full-time faculty with different submission deadlines in October/December 2020 or March, 2021. Faculty are encouraged to submit to more than one program but can submit only one application within each program.

Each opportunity is described below with links to individual pages where you can download guidelines on the requirements for each proposal, proposal templates and details of our online submission process.

You can request funds for research supplies, summer salary, travel or course release. Each proposal must be signed by your chair and dean. You will also need to convert the entire proposal into a single PDF for submission, so please ensure that you have the ability to do this ahead of the submission deadline. For your reference we have prepared a biosketech template (PDF).

Bridge Fund Award

The Bridge Fund Award is designed to support faculty who submit competitive proposals to external granting agencies or foundations.

Covid-19 Collaborative Interdisciplinary Research Award

We are seeking to integrate faculty expertise across disciplines and from each of the six schools at Pace University. The goal of this grant program is to seed new research in an interdisciplinary manner.  The program requires the research be collaborative to maximize novel and creative thinking about every aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic. We envision this program to be a forum for studying societal responses to the current crisis, recovery, resilience, and the reimagining of our lives and work.

Open Educational Resources (OER) Alternative Textbook Grants

Faculty is invited to apply for grants in researching and creating Open Educational Resources (OER) to be used in a class beginning in the Spring, Summer or Fall 2021 semester.

OER are defined as high-quality curricular materials that are free to students and “open” to use by faculty with no copyright limitations. Information on OER can be found on Pace's OER website. Faculty can also email Sue Maxam, Ed.D. to be put in contact with a member of the OER team from the library for assistance with identifying course materials and to answer any questions you have about OER.

Book and Performance Completion Award

We invite proposals from faculty who are working creative projects they are developing into publishable book manuscripts or performances. Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis to full-time faculty at any Pace University school to develop or complete a project. This program welcomes applications for projects that in the developmental stage as well as for projects that are nearing completion.

Classroom Based Research Experiences Award

The Pace University Office of Research is offering grants for innovative ideas to incorporate original, authentic research projects into the undergraduate curriculum. For the purposes of this competition, authentic research is defined as a plan for seeking answers to a research question for which the outcome is unknown. The research question should be based on the expertise of the PI, and should involve the development of new avenues of inquiry. Projects can be implemented into new or existing courses but must incorporate a researchable aim.

Interdisciplinary Collaborative Pedagogical Research Award

Description: This funding opportunity supports faculty who collaborate across disciplines to create Learning Communities (LC) that provide interdisciplinary learning experiences for students at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Recognized by the American Association of Colleges and Universities as a high impact practice, LCs encourage integration of learning across courses and engage students with “big questions” that matter beyond the classroom. Students take two or more linked courses in a single semester as a group and work closely with one another and with their professors.

Proposals can be submitted by faculty seeking to refine an existing LC or by faculty proposing the development of a new LC. While LCs at Pace typically focus on first-year students, this funding opportunity supports the integration of courses at the undergraduate or graduate level. Student Technology Fee Proposals
Pace University assesses a Technology Fee to ensure students have access to the latest instructional technology resources available. The fee is earmarked for instructional technologies to keep Pace up to date with the technology needed for today’s teaching and learning methodologies. All revenue generated from the technology fee goes directly towards funding instructional technology initiatives.

A committee comprised of students and IT representatives from each school will review proposals and vote to select discretionary initiatives receiving funding each year, with annual reports to be provided to the Pace community.

Students are encouraged to submit their own funding proposal to the Student Technology Fee Committee. All timely submissions will be evaluated and considered at the next Student Technology Fee Committee Meeting.


Wilson Center Faculty Fellows
The Wilson Center aims to build a diverse portfolio of research projects with a focus on the identification and analysis of immediate issues facing nonprofits, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and social enterprises. To that end, the Center invites Pace University faculty members to apply for appointments as 2020-2021 Wilson Center Fellows. Fellows will serve a 1-year term (October through September). During that time, Wilson Fellows will work on specific projects (case studies and academic research are strongly preferred, interdisciplinary work is encouraged) that support the Center's mission and goals. In return, scholars will receive a $5,000 award paid in two installments. The initial installment in the amount of $2,500 will be paid upon appointment. The final payment in the amount of $2,500 will be paid when the final deliverable paper has been accepted by the committee (no later than September 2021) and the fellow has completed a Wilson Center Brown Bag Lunch Research Seminar or similar research showcase on campus. Fellows may reapply after a 4-year hiatus including the award year.


Scholarly Research

Scholarly research applications for either release time or research expenses are available on the NYFC's Faculty forms webpage.

  • Fall due date: FIRST Wednesday of October (10/07/20)
  • Spring due date: TBD
  • Send completed form via Echosign to your Chair, followed by your Dean, followed by the Chair of the SRC to Zafir Buraei.

Applicants should allow time for signatures in their planning. All applications must arrive to the SRC before the deadline.

Pleasantville
The Fall 2020 Scholarly Research and Kenan applications will be due Tuesday, October 9th. Please email the complete applications to the Chair of the Commitee, Dan Farkas.
