ITS Connect: December 2018
Announcing free access to Microsoft Office, more email space, how to navigate a snowday, and more news and notes from ITS!
Free Access to Microsoft Office Applications
The Office 365 suite of applications is now available for free! You can install it on multiple personal devices (Windows or Mac) and Office apps on mobile devices including Windows tablets and iPads. Office 365 Pro Plus will replace the previous MS Office 2016 application. To install this upgrade, please check out the instructions for Windows or Mac users. Windows users who have the existing MS Office will need to uninstall that version in order to use Office 365.
Blackboard Will Be Unavailable in Late December
From 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, through Sunday, December 30, until 6:00 p.m., Blackboard will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. Advanced planning is important because the downtime will occur a few days after the end of the fall semester (Thursday, December 21) and just prior to the beginning of the January Intersession (Wednesday, January 2). Do your best to take care of necessary work beforehand!
Email Storage Increase
ITS just completed an upgrade to the Exchange email servers, which allowed us to increase the amount of storage space for staff and faculty email accounts by 50%. The available storage quota for these mailboxes went from 10 GB to 15 GB. The additional storage space will allow staff and faculty to store more emails than before, therefore reducing the frequency at which they need to delete old emails to make space for newer content. For departmental/shared mailboxes, the quota has been increased from 2 GB to 5 GB.
ITS is continually updating systems and making improvements for the benefit of the Pace Community, and we want to keep you informed of our progress. If you have any question, please contact ITS Help Desk at (914) 773-3333, email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or online at help.pace.edu.
Using Technology to Navigate Snow Days
There are many ways to continue teaching or make up missing class time when you can't be there in person due to planned absences (conferences) or last-minute (bad weather, illness) situations. You can engage with your students in real-time with web conferences, or asynchronously, through methods such as posting videos, readings, and discussion questions. Links to detailed instructions and tutorials are available from your Blackboard "My Resource Page" tab, or you can go directly to our snowday website to learn about planning for a future absence or dealing with an unexpected absence.
Save the date! Seidenberg, in conjunction with Cyber Intelligence 4U, will be hosting a virtual cybersecurity conference on Thursday, October 29.
