Spring into the Schimmel (NYC)
We’ve got it goin’ on at the Schimmel this spring—from a ballet of Alice in Wonderland, to a bluegrass opry, to DakhaBrakha.

The Argentine based Che Malambo brings fiery Malambo traditions and virtuosic dancing to the contemporary stage for an exhilarating and entertaining show that is perfect for the entire family. Presenting a thrilling, percussive dance and music spectacle, the all-male company’s work celebrates the unique South American cowboy tradition of the gaucho. Learn more.
The HillBenders Present Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry
Saturday, March 25 | 7:30 p.m.
Head to the Schimmel for an all-acoustic rendition of the Who’s classic album performed in its entirety. Forty-five years after its original release, this classic of classic rock has now been fully realized as a full length bluegrass tribute featuring Springfield, Missouri’s the HillBenders. Conceived and produced by SXSW co-founder and longtime musician and producer Louis Jay Meyers, this Bluegrass Opry brings a new perspective to Tommy while paying total respect to its creators. Saturday, April 15 | 7:30 p.m.
After a sold-out 2016 show, DakhaBrakha is back by popular demand! This talented group from Kiev will be bringing with them new songs from their upcoming album, as well as old favorites. DakhaBrakha’s musical style blends soulful folk and ritual songs with Balkan, African, jazz, and R&B. Learn more.
Legends and Visionaries: New York Theatre Ballet
Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29 | 7:30 p.m.
Deemed “an invaluable company” by The New York Times, the Legends and Visionaries performance will feature a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel’s Revision, as well as the world premiere of Misfit Movement Makers, by Broadway choreographer Chase Brock, set to indie-folk and folk-pop music with lyrics. Says Brock, “I see this new ballet as a millennial folk dance, a dance that will feel current without feeling contemporary.” Learn more.
The Alice in Wonderland Follies
Sunday, April 30 | 3:00 p.m.
You’re familiar with Alice’s adventures through Wonderland, so why not spend a night following Alice as she meets some of the most beloved characters in children’s literature? The ballet is presented in a vaudeville setting, and draws on many different dance forms to create an eclectic, and undeniably entertaining night out. Learn more.
