The Pace Sketch Comedy Group is a team of writers, directors, actors, filmmakers, musicians, and more working together to create a live comedic performance. With a cast of members coming from a variety of backgrounds and skill sets, the group provides an opportunity to create and be a part of original and unique comedy sketches—all without having to audition! Get to know more about the creative club in this Q&A with the Sketch Comedy Group’s President Lauren Wohlmacher.

Q: What does your organization offer to Pace and Pace students?

A: Pace Sketch Comedy Group offers Pace students a chance to write, direct, and act in their own original comedy sketches! It is a platform for students to learn and experiment with comedy in all shapes and forms.

Q: What events do you have coming up and how can students get involved?

A: We have weekly meetings on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. on the 8th floor of 41 Park Row in the SDACA lounge or Thursdays at 3:25 p.m. in room W608. You don't need to go to both—it is the same information at both meetings. However, some weeks we skip meetings or not everybody has to come, so the best way to follow us for updates is through our social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or e-mail us at pacesketchcomedy@gmail.com.

To be a member, you must come to two meetings per semester and there is no audition necessary to be a member.

Q: Why should people join your organization?

A: People should join our organization because it is so much fun! It is a great way to relax amidst the stress of school and change. You meet so many new people from all different majors and get your creative juices flowing.

Q: What signature events and achievements are you guys planning/known for?

A: Every semester, we do two live sketch comedy shows (similar format of Saturday Night Live), which is what we are known for, I would say. However, we are still a fairly new club at Pace (last year was our first year) so every semester it changes slightly. This semester, we also had our first full-length production of the play COCK by Mike Bartlett. Next semester we are planning a few new events, including a night of standup comedians. The club is certainly still growing and branching out to all different forms of comedy.

Q: If you could describe your club in a few words, what would they be?

A: Funny (obviously haha), collaborative, and easy to be a part of!

Q: What are the goals of the organization?

A: The goals of the organization are to welcome all students from all different majors to work together to create both live and digital shorts from the ground up. We want people to have fun, laugh, make new friends, and develop their writing and acting skills.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

A: As far as the actual sketch shows go, they are formatted like SNL. We have an opening monologue, live sketches, digital shorts, a musical guest, and a Pace update! The sketches themselves are usually about five minutes long and can really be about anything. Sometimes if a show lands around a holiday, we have a few holiday-themed sketches too.
