Relay For Life (PLV)
If you had the ability to create a world with more birthdays, would you do it? On April 21, the Pace Community will host Relay for Life to support the fight for a cancer-free world.
In 2017, it is estimated that there will be 1,688,780 new cases of cancer diagnosed in the US, but we’re not letting cancer win. It’s time to prove that cancer cannot stop us from fighting on toward a cure. The journey to end this horrible disease starts with a single step, and the PLV Campus is encouraging you to take that step with them and celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer as Colleges Against Cancer at Pace hosts the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, through Saturday, April 22, at 4:00 a.m. in the Goldstein Fitness Center. This inspiring overnight event unites the entire community in celebrating those who have had cancer, remembering loved ones lost, and providing an opportunity to fight back against the disease.
Last year, the Pace Community raised more than $38,000 through Relay For Life and donated 100% of proceeds to cancer societies, and this year, they are hoping to raise $60,000. More than just a walk around a track, Relay For Life brings the community together for a night of activities, food, entertainment, and games sponsored by student organizations and Greek life. A Survivors and Caregivers Lap will celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer and an emotional Luminaria Ceremony will pay tribute to those affected by cancer with a bright glow of hope that lights up the night.
Proceeds raised from Relay For Life allow the American Cancer Society to continue their services to cancer patients and their families. Started in 1985, Relay For Life began with one man who circled around a track for 24 hours raising $27,000. This year, Relay For Life has grown to more than 5,200 communities and more than 25 countries worldwide.
So far, students, faculty, and staff have registered and raised nearly $10,000 and counting for Relay this year. Registration is $20. Make a difference today by signing up, joining a team, or simply making a donation. Let’s come together to help celebrate more and more survivors and prove that cancer cannot win.
Don't foget to show your support at events leading up to the big day!
