Making Strides with ePortfolios

Nearly half of all U.S. colleges and universities use ePortfolios in some capacity, and it seems Pace is ahead of the pack. Pace’s involvement in a three-year Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education grant, Connect to Learning, a project connecting 24 ePortfolio-using institutions across the country, culminated at the AAC&U conference in D.C. last month.
“We are very excited to share with the Pace Community the National Catalyst website, a doorway to ePortfolio best practices, to the ways ePortfolios connect students’ academic and co-curricular experiences, and to rich data that can promote scholarship as well as opportunities for program development,” says Director of Dyson College’s Strauss Thinking and Learning Center and co-director of ePortfolio Linda Anstendig, EdD.
In addition to Anstendig, the Pace team comprises stakeholders from key areas of the University, including: Executive Director of Academic Technology and co-director of ePortfolio Beth Gordon, PhD, Assistant University Librarian for Instructional Services Sarah Burns-Feyl, and Executive Director for the Center for Teaching Learning and Technology and Pforzheimer Center for Faculty Development Jim Stenerson. Samantha Egan, an academic technology supervisor, also helped to support the team with their efforts.
“According to our collective research developed through the Connect to Learning grant, ePortfolios advance student success, support reflection and higher order thinking, and also spur on curricular reform,” says Gordon, PhD. “We're so pleased by Pace's role in this nationally recognized project and resource and proud to be part of the international ePortfolio movement.”
The conference also marked the official launch of the Catalyst for Learning Site, a robust web resource documenting the progress of each institution in planning, launching, growing, and deepening their ePortfolio projects. Pace’s project portfolio outlines the University’s journey toward ePortfolio implementation and highlights the best practices of Pace instructors and showcases the outstanding work of Pace students. The Pace team was asked to extend their grant-funded efforts through June in order to continue to lead the momentum on national ePortfolio growth.
