News Story

The Kenan Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes exemplary teaching performance by Pace University faculty. The deadline to nominate Pace faculty is Wednesday, February 28.

The Office of the Provost encourages you to participate in the process of selecting this year's Kenan Award recipients by nominating your colleagues. Full-time faculty members who meet the following criteria will be considered:

  • >> Unusual effectiveness in classroom performance
  • >> Evidence of an outstanding degree of student understanding and concern
  • >> Demonstrated high standards of intellectual interest; and
  • >> A continuing source of inspiration to their colleagues.

Nominations are invited from faculty, students, and administrators, and should include a one or two-page supporting statement indicating how the nominee meets the criteria. Nominations may be submitted by emailing the Office of the Provost, with a copy to the appropriate Dean. They may also be mailed to the Office of the Provost in a sealed envelope/marked "Kenan Nominee" with a copy also sent to the Dean.

Submit nominations by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

After the selection of the two award recipients, the two committees of Kenan Award for Teaching Excellence will select one of the two and nominate him/her for a number of recognized national/regional/discipline teaching awards.

Further information and criteria considerations are available on the Office of the Provost website.

The Teaching Excellence Award for Part-Time Faculty recognizes the valuable contributions of part-time faculty to the teaching mission of the University. Each year, it honors two part-time faculty members (one from New York City and one from Westchester), whose teaching performance is outstanding. Recipients are recognized at commencement with a certificate and monetary award.

Part-time faculty members who have taught at Pace for at least eight semesters and meet the following criteria will be considered:

  • >> Evidence of outstanding student learning outcomes
  • >> Unusual effectiveness in classroom performance
  • >> Evidence of student satisfaction via student evaluation scores
  • >> Peer evaluations describing high quality teaching

Nominations are submitted by the part-time faculty member’s department chair. A one- or two- page supporting statement indicating how the nominee meets the criteria should accompany the nomination, along with a signed endorsement from the school/college dean. A summary of student evaluation results for the previous eight semesters and at least one peer evaluation by a full-time department faculty member should be included.

The nominations must be submitted in a sealed envelope (marked “Teaching Excellence Award for Part-Time Faculty Nominee”) to the Office of the Provost, with a copy to the appropriate dean no later than Wednesday, February 28. The two award recipients will be selected by a committee of tenured/tenure-track and part-time faculty appointed by the Provost.
