An Amazing App-ortunity (PLV)
Are you an innovator? Crusader? App-maker? If so, the second annual Westchester Smart App Mobile Development Bowl is the event for you!
Seidenberg and Westchester County are excited to announce the 2016 rendition of the Smart App Mobile Development Bowl, which will be held this spring in Pleasantville. Last year, more than 150 students participated in the inaugural bowl, and developed apps to help the treatment of patients with alzheimer’s or dementia. This year’s challenge involves “Mobile Apps for Aging Populations,” specifically apps targeted towards improving the daily lives of people aged 65 or older.
By 2050, more than 21 percent of the global population will be 65 or older, compared to 11.7 percent in 2013 (United Nations; U.S. Census Bureau). Worldwide, this aging population will represent the focus of many societal and economic challenges and changes to products and services including healthcare and wellness; transportation; hospitality; travel; packaging and labeling of products; privacy and confidentiality concerns (cybersecurity); and technology/media platforms. This is where you come in—to apply computing and technology skills to create mobile apps that will help solve these societal and economic challenges.
The app festivities will begin with a kickoff event on February 26, with competition rounds to be hosted later in March. Participants can register as a team or an individual, and there is no fee to apply. The competition will be judged in full, with winners and prizes to be awarded.
